Reading Olympics is a literacy program created by The Junior League of Midland, Inc. (the League). This 12 week program is designed to take elementary-aged children through literary adventures that will foster a love of reading. To accomplish our goal, we are partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Midland. This placement shows the commitment we have to our focus area “Keeping Kids in School-Every Age, Every Stage.” A recent study found that children who are not fluent readers are more likely to have lower self-esteem, to have discipline problems, and are less likely to graduate from high school. The League’s Reading Olympics program will empower young readers in the City of Midland and allow them to realize their potential to do great things.
